Hey there,
Welcome to the soloist page of this website. Here, I would like to tell you about my interest in being a solo musician.
It started for me in the brass band I played in at the time, Brass Band Pro Rege based in Heerenveen, The Netherlands, where I figured out that I like to tell a story with the music. With the help of my interpretation of the piece, I would try to come up with scenarios of what was happening at certain points. Performing with the brass band was the first time that I got to play solo. It was an amazing feeling!
Later on, I also became interested in doubling on both baroque and modern tenor trombones. The storytelling came easy with the Baroque music as most of it has written text, fx. when playing choir parts or solos for voice. I learned this when playing as a soloist with the choir Concert Clemens in their concerts with Schütz his Musikalische Exequien in 2019
After winning the soloist competition at the conservatory in Aarhus, I was given the chance to play solo with the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra. Having spent a week with them in the summer of 2020, I was gripped by excitement for playing solo with the orchestra. It was at this point that I would seriously consider pursuing it.
Now, I’m studying for a Doctorate of Musical Arts at the University of Southern Mississippi, USA. Having won the Gower Competition, I received the opportunity to perform the Brubeck Concerto for Bass Trombone with the Orchestra. This experience confirmed my interest in performing as a soloist.
As a trombonist, it is my goal to learn and play as many different genres and pieces as possible. I believe that this paves the way to opening up new doors within both the repertoire and with whom you can play.
